October 11th, 2009 Shoe Roundup: October 11, 2009

Next week will be a busy week for The Shoe Goddess, as Florence and Samantha are headed to London and then on to Paris! We’ll definitely keep you posted on their adventures! But, in the meantime, here’s a little recap of what happened this week!

We started the week with Florence’s Pick of the Week, this [...]

October 11th, 2009 TopShop Amaze Feature Heel Boot

Anyone who knows me know that I have a severe obsession with all things Topshop. Topshop is an amazing mass produced company, and all of its affordable clothing, shoes, and accessories are very well designed and fashionable.
Topshop shoes, of course, are amazing because they are not only affordable, but they are also architecturally beautiful. These [...]

October 11th, 2009 Chloe Cap Toe Oxford Pumps

When Phoebe Philo stepped down as creative director of Chloe, I was nervous as to what was to come of the brand. Philo had transformed the brand into what we now know it as: the trendy, feminine, and always beautiful brand that celebrities love to wear and us normal people love to covet. However, once [...]

October 11th, 2009 Tory Burch “Jaden” Buckle Boots

Even though Tory Burch’s shoe collection may be past its prime, I absolutely adore these Jaden Buckle Boots. The black leather with the gold buckles makes these shoes a fall must-have. Usually, buckle boots are flat, and these have a 3.75” heel (and who doesn’t love a heel!)
These boots would be absolutely perfect if you [...]

October 11th, 2009 Valentino Spring/Summer 2010 shoes

I think the Valentino shoe collection, designed by London-based milliner Philip Treacy, is extremely elegant and fanciful. He incorporated the theme "fairy tales" in the collection, designing with a new, younger Valentino generation in mind. The beautiful footwear had lace wings arcing upward from the heels, and in some cases, from the front of the shoe. I prefer the ones with lace on the ankle or the all lace pumps. The sandals with the ball of lace up front was a bit distracting and took away from the beauty of the design.

I think the collection was a huge success and will give the Valentino brand a new relevance in the designer shoe empire.

October 11th, 2009 John Galliano Spring/Summer 2010 shoes

John-Galliano-Spring/Summer-2010-shoes John-Galliano-Spring/Summer-2010-shoes

John Galliano is known for his romantic and whimsical designs, and the spring/summer 2010 shoe collection is no different. However, these shoes lean heavily into whimsical territory, bordering on costume-y. The sky high platform is "in" now, but when they get too high the shoe becomes unrealistic for regular wear and a bit silly looking.

Galliano was inspired by "old Hollywood glamour" for this collection and is reflected in the pink polka dot lace, silk bows, and feather details that adorned the shoes. The heels are a string of pearls and many of the shoes had dangling pearl charms or draping strands of pearls.

I like this collection from an artistic perspective, but I couldn't think of any occasion where I would possibly wear any of them. However John Galliano doesn't design for people like me, he has a very select target market (think Betsey Johnson), and they will love it.

October 11th, 2009 Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2010 Shoes

Miuccia Prada said she was "questioning innocence, questioning youth" when she designed this collection. Only problem with that is, grown women are her target market and we don't like to dress like a child. The shoes are very child like indeed, in both style and design. The silk materials display child like flower or animal themes and the round toe mary jane is every little girls dress shoe. The other shoes that weren't mary janes were still quirky and not what one would expect from a high priced luxury label.

It's amazing to me that a designer can go from beautiful, expertly crafted shoes to this in the span of less than a year.

October 11th, 2009 Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2010 shoes

After seeing the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010 shoe collection, I didn't have really high hopes for the Louis Vuitton collection that he designs, but this is ridiculous. Alpaca fur tassels that drag the ground!? Can you imagine how filthy they will look if you actually wore them outside, not to mention tripping over them. And the tassel details at the heel…it doesn't make sense and it's ugly. I can only think that Marc Jacobs meant to create the most ridiculous and unflattering shoes possible, a la Maison Martin Margiela, because he is capable of immensely beautiful and chic designs.

Moving on to the heel. It looks like a stump. Even the corkscrew ones that have a bit of imagination are plain ugly and unflattering.

Marc also thought that fur lined boots were acceptable for a spring/summer collection. Mmmk.

When I think of designer shoes, this isn't what comes to mind. This entire collection is beyond a disaster, it's a joke.

October 11th, 2009 Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 shoes

Alexander-McQueen-Spring/Summer-2010-shoes

Alexander McQueen blasted Lady GaGa's new single as models walked down the runway at his show yesterday. Fitting, since she is about the only person who could pull off some of his shoes from this Spring/Summer collection. As outrageous as some of the towering platform foot encapsulations were, there were some equally fabulous footwear on display. His signature skull evolved into a part skeleton - part alien in a few of the designs like the one pictured above. In my opinion, this is one of his most fabulous designs from this collection. However, my favorite are the futuristic/utilitarian ankle boot in perfectly complimenting colors and materials. In the world of designer shoes, Alexander McQueen reigns supreme in his niche market of terribly chic, ultra glam, fashion forward consumers. I can't wait to find out if the more outrageous shoes (bottom pics) will make it to market or if there are merely props for the show. Would any of your wear them?

October 11th, 2009 Giuseppe Zanotti Snakeskin Embossed Ankle Boot

Giuseppe-Zanotti-Snakeskin-Embossed-Ankle-Boot

I recently recieved an email from one of my Obsessed readers who kindly informed me I have been misspelling Giuseppe Zanotti, for Guiseppe Zanotti, from the start of this blog over a year ago. How. Embaressing.

These lovely Giuseppe Zanotti boots are snakeskin embossed leather and feature harness strap and buckle detail. They look white, but are actually eggshell. They have a 4.25 inch heel and a .5 inch platform. $1,079 at Zappos.
